❓ Issue/Question

  • I want to make sure this process works first time and the original file sizes get downloaded
  • What do you advise next in terms of the X that have failed?
  • When you extract the downloaded ZIP, some files fail with Cannot create … The system cannot find the file specified

 

👌 Resolution/Answer

  • Check the failed files
    • Look at the names of the files that failed. If they start with ._ (e.g. ._8H8A1390.MP4), they aren't media and you can ignore the errors
    • All the real files in your selection are in the ZIP
  • Clean up the collection
    • Delete the ._ files from the collection so they aren't downloaded next time
  • Avoid it next time
    • Ask whoever uploads from a Mac to leave out the ._ files or remove them before uploading

 

🥚 Cause

  • Files starting with ._ are hidden system files that a Mac creates automatically when copying files. They're only a few KB, contain no media, and Windows can't extract them
