Can the AI identify players based on the number on their jersey or shorts?

• Is there any way to also include the number, in case there is a side photo that doesn't quite detect the face or name, but you can see the pants?
• Can the AI detect players' jersey numbers?

👌 Resolution/Answer

• ScorePlay doesn't detect jersey or shorts numbers
• Player recognition relies on the player's face and the name printed on their jersey

🥚 Cause

• Number detection isn't currently supported because it can produce too many false positives. For example, numbers on an advertising board in the background could be mistaken for a player's jersey number, resulting in the wrong player being tagged. Similarly, an opponent's jersey number could be incorrectly detected and attributed to one of your players
