❓ Issue/Question
- What is BYOS?
- Who should use BYOS?
👌 Resolution/Answer
- BYOS stands for Bring Your Own Storage.
- BYOS alows users to use their own cloud/storage (S3, FTP, etc.) to hold the original media files instead of ScorePlay’s managed bucket. ScorePlay still stores the media metadata and serves the platform UI, but the actual file URLs and download/original-storage operations point to the customer’s storage.
- BYOS can be any cloud storage provider: Wasabi, Azure (microsoft), Backblaze, or even AWS.
- Using BYOS can be convenient for clients who:
- Already use a non-AWS storage provider
- Have large existing media archives they don’t want to migrate
- Want to leverage negotiated pricing or existing storage contracts
- Need to integrate on-prem infrastructure alongside cloud storage
