Do historical associated tags change on old media after merging player profiles?

💻 Environment/Context

  • Associated tag
  • Player profile
  • Merging player profiles

❓ Issue/Question

  • A player has duplicate profiles that need to be merged. There is a concern that merging the profiles or updating the player's associated team may modify the historical team tags already applied to existing media.
  • When updating the athletes' tags, we agree that this does not change the tags on photos where the old teams were detected? For example, Luca Van Boven was in the Intermarché Wanty team in 2025; when we remove this tag from his profile, is the history on the 2025 photos preserved?
  • When two duplicate profiles for the same athlete are merged, and each profile has a different associated team tag (for example, one associated with the 2025 team and the other with the 2026 team), the merged profile retains the current team association. If the old team tag is later removed or replaced on the player's profile, does this also remove or update the team tag on media that was captured and tagged during the earlier season, or are those historical team tags preserved?

👌 Resolution/Answer

  • Merging profiles and keeping the newer associated team tag DOES NOT modify the associated team tags on previously tagged media. When two profiles are merged, only the player profile is consolidated; the player tag on existing media is updated to point to the retained profile, while the historical associated team tag on that older media stays unchanged.
