❓ Issue/Question
- What is a live preset and when should I use one?
👌 Resolution/Answer
-
What is a live preset?
- A live preset is a saved set of encoding and recording settings that you apply to a live ingest when you schedule it, so you don't have to set them again for every fixture
- A preset holds the video bitrate, resolution, video scan type, frame rate, and, optionally, custom audio channels
- Resolutions available: 1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080, and portrait 720 x 1280 and 1080 x 1920
- Scan types: progressive, top field first or bottom field first
- Frame rates can have decimals, e.g., 29.97 or 59.94
-
When do we recommend using one?
- You need more than the default outputs. Without a preset, only 1080p and 720p proxies are generated
- The feed is interlaced, portrait, or uses a non-standard frame rate
- The feed carries several audio tracks (e.g., commentary in different languages, ambient, radio), and you want each one named and kept as its own track
- You need to combine mono tracks into a stereo or 5.1 track
- You run several feeds with different setups, e.g., clean and dirty feeds usually need different bitrates and audio mapping
-
When you don't need one?
- A standard 1080p feed with a single audio track works fine without a preset
-
Use a preset
- Go to
Live>Live presetsand clickNew preset - Select the preset when you schedule the live
- Go to
-
Before the event
- Make sure the preset matches what the encoder actually sends: the same frame rate and scan type, and no more audio tracks than the feed carries
- Test with a lineup test before event day
🔖 Notes
- A preset can't be changed on a live that already exists. To use a different preset, delete the live and schedule it again
